Axis Communications has launched the world’s smallest wireless megapixel network camera, the AXIS 207MW – a bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4 network camera offering superior image quality. The AXIS 207MW is built mainly for indoor surveillance and remote monitoring applications.

The AXIS 207MW Network Camera extends the compact AXIS 207 product range and measures only 85mm wide. Key features of the AXIS 207MW network camera include its megapixel lens with an Infrared cut filter to deliver excellent picture quality even in low light conditions.

The camera supports simultaneous MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG for optimised image quality and bandwidth usage, providing Motion JPEG images of up to 1280×1024 pixels.

Remote users can also listen in on a monitored area through the built-in microphone. The AXIS 207MW is quick and simple to configure and has support for both Windows and Mac operating systems using a standard web browser for configuration and viewing.

Flexible installation is made possible as the unit accommodates both a wireless IEEE 802.11g and an Ethernet network interface.

Security is assured with support for the WPA2 protocol in addition to the standard WEP and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) protocols. The AXIS 207MW offers high performance wireless transmission and a wide coverage range to give the user the freedom to place the camera where it is needed, instead of worrying where the network outlet is located.

Steve Gorski, managing director of Axis Communications UK, commented: “The AXIS 207MW makes compact wireless cameras even more attractive to the entry-level user, and demonstrates our commitment to develop and produce cameras that do not compromise on image quality and functionality.”

The new camera will be available during the last quarter of 2006 through Axis’ distribution channels.

The recommended retail price will be £270 (excluding VAT).
