Two dead following a 20-minute police pursuit
A man and a woman have died after the car they were travelling in went the wrong way down the A40 in west London.
Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers had been pursuing the vehicle for around 20 minutes, assisted by a police helicopter, after responding to a report of aggravated burglary.
A third person in the car, a man, has been taken to hospital but his condition is as yet unknown.
The pursuit began at about 8:40pm on Sunday (February 10) when officers responded to the call from a residential address in Harrow.
At approximately 9pm the car moved onto the wrong side of the carriageway on the A40 near Acton, a MPS spokesperson said. The police vehicles did not follow.
It was then in collision with a coach near the junction with Kingsdown Avenue, W3.
The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no reports of any serious injuries to anyone other than in the car being pursued.
The MPS said its Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.
