Sergeant Chris Hughes is believed to have taken his own life.

Sgt Hughes joined Kent Police in 1997 and had worked across the force’s East Division throughout his 24 years’ service.

Neil Mennie, chair of Kent Police Federation, said “This is a tremendous shock for all of us – and especially those who knew and worked with Chris, including myself. I know many of his colleagues will be utterly devastated – and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time.

“For any colleagues who might be in need of support, it is important to know that there are resources available to help. #ItsOkToNotBeOk
