The TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) system that is in wide use across forces in the UK has now been enhanced.

Motorola will supply new Gateway/Repeater technology to TETRA customers after linking with Cleartone who manufacture and supply VHF and UHF radio communications products for the emergency services both in the UK and overseas. The Gateway/Repeater will work seamlessly with Motorola’s existing TETRA systems.

The new technology will deliver significant benefits and added features to public safety, military, transportation and other TETRA radio users through a common user interface and feature set. This will result in more effective training and support.

Charles Couchman, product manager, Motorola TETRA subscribers said: “This product is an important addition to Motorola’s product portfolio. This new product is designed to complement Motorola’s existing products, and builds on the success of our TETRA portfolio. We are extending our broader radio products by working with Cleartone and this deal recognises not only the important contribution made by Cleartone to TETRA, but Motorola’s commitment to deliver complete solutions to its customers.”
