Staffordshire Police has launched a new mobile version of its website after figures showed that more than a third of online visitors are now browsing on a mobile device.

Over the past 12 months, the number of force website visitors who are browsing on a mobile device has risen from ten to 35 per cent on average. A large proportion of these visitors arrive on the website through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

The total of Staffordshire Police’s social media followers has doubled since August this year, reaching almost 35,000.

Ian Fegan, head of corporate communications, said: “The mobile website demonstrates that we are looking to use new technology to help us meet both the demands of modern-day policing and the public.

“The site provides yet another avenue to share important information and offers a simple and cost-effective way for the public to engage with us.”

The site, which can be viewed on mobile and smartphones at http://m.staffordshire.police.uk, allows the public to read the latest news, appeals and ‘Behind Bars’ updates while on the move.

People can also find details of their local officers, upcoming community meetings and read the latest neighbourhood newsletters directly on their phones.

iPhone users also have the option to add a bookmark to the site on their home screen.
