Phil Gormley will soon begin working with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS), the Scottish Daily Record reported on Saturday (August 18).

The newspaper claimed Mr Gormley would be responsible for scrutinising forces in the north of England and Northern Ireland. However, HMICFRS has refused to confirm the report.

Mr Gormley left Police Scotland six months ago amid an investigation into his alleged bullying of colleagues.

He will be replaced by Deputy Chief Constable Iain Livingstone.

A HMICFRS spokesperson said: “This is speculation [by the Scottish Daily Record]. We do have an HMI vacancy and once we have an appointment, it will be announced.”
