YDS, Europe’s largest manufacturer of military and police footwear, has developed a new, advanced public order boot that offers more protection than ever before. The ‘Control’ boot, developed together with the help of police forces around the UK, provides a high-performance barrier against petrol bombing, principally by the application of dual density rubber (DDR) sole technology.

YDS has been manufacturing footwear since 1927, producing 10,000 pairs of boots a day, and has an extensive development and SATRA-accredited testing facility that ensures attention can be paid to each and every design detail. DDR is a soling technique that only a handful of manufacturers have mastered throughout the world and it offers superior comfort.

In ‘Control’, a flame-resistant DDR compound sole is injected onto the uppers for outstanding bond strength and, versus other public order boots with PU/Rubber boots on the market, withstands greater instances of heat (300C). The combination of protective features, including fire retardant lace and thread, and downward-facing seams for petrol run off, has been proven to successfully endure instances of petrol bombing and is currently being used and on trial by various police forces and prisons around the UK.

To protect against missiles and other potentially sharp objects, YDS has integrated a cut-resistant material behind the leather uppers in the boot. A Lenzi® flexible nail-proof textile midsole is used to protect from penetration underfoot and as public order officers must stand for long periods of time, the softer density rubber midsole featured in the boot provides a comfortable, cushioned and shock-absorbing layer for the foot.

Steve Hall, sales director for YDS in the UK, said: “The main advantage of our Control boot is the injected DDR sole technology. This injected sole type offers unrivalled protection and comfort in volatile riot situations and alongside other design features it means there is no other public order boot on the market like it.”

Available for trial and for purchase through purchasing frameworks and specialist retailers throughout the UK.
