The collision happened at the junction with Badsey Lane on Elm Road in Evesham and involved a grey Audi, driven by a member of the public, and a marked West Mercia Police vehicle.

The ambulance service was called to the scene but the driver of the Audi, a man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the police vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The force’s Professional Standards Department have been alerted, as is standard practice and the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Assistant Chief Constable Rachel Jones said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time and ask that their privacy is respected.”
