The new system will integrate data from multiple sources, remove duplication of records, provide enhanced data analysis and give officers a single view of a person or location to support better decision-making.

Police Scotland says it forms a strategic part of its ‘Data Drives Digital’ programme under the Joint Strategy for Policing (2020).

Its objective is to ease access to a single view of trusted, linked data, to “realise the benefits of a data driven organisation”.

The £750,000 deal with Civica for its MultiVue Master Data Management (MDM) software also complies with all legal and ethical considerations and requirements.

Denis Hamill, chief data officer for Police Scotland, said: “Master data management is foundational to our ‘Data Drives Digital’ programme, which aims to enable the delivery of trusted data to meet Police Scotland’s analytical demands.

“We’re looking forward to working in partnership with Civica to provide well-governed, trusted and high-quality data that will better support dynamic decision-making by police officers and staff as they continue to improve the safety and wellbeing of people, places and communities in Scotland.”

Chris Owen, divisional managing director for MDM at Civica, said the new data hub “will enhance analysis and operational efficiencies” across Police Scotland.
