PIRC examines ‘leader’ complaints

An audit has been launched into how complaints about Scotland’s senior officers are treated. The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) has a statutory obligation to ensure “suitable arrangements” are in place to deal with allegations regarding officers ranked assistant chief constable and above. The audit will examine the effectiveness and transparency of the Scottish Police Authority’s (SPA) complaints procedures. It will also look into the process for assessing which complaints fall within the SPA’s remit. A PIRC spokesperson said it is expected to take “a number of months” to complete.
