British Transport Police (BTP) is the latest organisation to take advantage of the ANPR Framework Agreement between Thames Valley Police and Telecommunication Systems Integrators Optilan.

Optilan will supply and install Talon ANPR equipment at a number of key railway stations throughout the British Isles. The systems will monitor road vehicles approaching the stations, in line with the ACPO initiative to deny criminals the use of the roads.

The Talon system, manufactured by UK company Appian Technology, automatically identifies vehicles ‘of interest’ to the police, allowing the operator to interrogate national databases for stolen and wanted vehicles.

“Optilan’s proposal shows the technical excellence we were looking for, backed by field engineering capacity to deliver simultaneously to many different sites,” said Thames Valley Police’s Philip Ambrose. “We visited the company and we were impressed.”

The contract covers installation, commissioning and test, and Optilan is widely known for delivering complete packages offering its ‘total solutions’ approach. Optilan was responsible for the UK’s first citywide CCTV system in Hull and is currently providing communications and CCTV for Section 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
