An officer is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed during an attempted arrest. The 26-year-old had been deployed to Wood End Road in Birmingham on Tuesday (December 12) when he was attacked with a knife. He suffered stab wounds to his neck and chest but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. An emergency search of the property ended with a 48-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of two counts of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody for questioning. West Midlands Police Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell said: This incident highlights once again the dangers officers face every single day, as they put themselves in harms way to deal with dangerous situations. The very nature of the job means officers go into challenging situations and acknowledge the risks they face. Despite this, officers put themselves on the front line protecting our communities from harm. The officers family have been informed and will be supported by our wider police family. Nothing can prepare family members for this type of incident and our thoughts are with them.
