The motorway was closed in both directions near Junction 3 for Swanley following the collision at around 4.05pm on Sunday (January 23) in which the police officer was “seriously injured”, said Kent Police.

“Police patrols were responding to a report of a stolen motorcycle when the bike, which was being driven the wrong way along the clockwise carriageway, collided with a male officer who has been airlifted to a London hospital for treatment,” said Kent Police.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving.

Kent Police said both carriageways have since reopened.

Kent Police Federation said “messages of support have been sent to our colleague who was injured yesterday”.
