Officer charged with assault following IOPC investigation
A serving Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer will appear in court this week charged with assault by beating.
PC Jonathan Marsh had been called to an incident of criminal damage on Atlanta Boulevard, Romford, on November 13, 2022.
“Force was used to arrest a man who was mistakenly identified as the suspect. He was later de-arrested at the scene,” said the MPS.
The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which carried out an independent investigation, leading to PC Marsh being charged.
The officer, who is attached to the East Area Command Unit, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (June 6)
The MPS said PC Marsh is currently on restricted duties.
