NSPIS custody and case preparations systems have gone live in police forces across the East of England.

NSPIS Custody and NSPIS Case Preparation are separate but linked applications, which improve the way that cases are processed from custody to court. They allow the police to electronically capture accurate case information, whilst meeting the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, and to share it with other criminal justice agencies.

Norfolk Constabulary recently went live with NSPIS Custody. Dereham police were ready and waiting to receive detainees using the new system on October 4, although an absence of arrests that day meant that the first detainee was not booked in until the October 5. However, by the end of the first working day, six further detainees had been processed. Since then, the force has continued roll out of the NSPIS system and has also gone live in Thetford.

Meanwhile, in Suffolk, NSPIS Case Preparation went live in force for the first time at the end of September. Lowestoft was the first criminal justice unit in Suffolk Constabulary to adopt the systems and roll out is now ongoing across the force.

Finally, Essex Police is now fully engaged in force-wide roll out of NSPIS Custody and Case Preparation. Having taken versions of both systems as early as October 2003, the force has recently moved to Version 4 of the systems. Migrating initially in Southend in `H` Division, force confidence in the new version is high and full roll out has now commenced
