Criminal intelligence IT specialist, ABM, has launched a new module within its Information Management System (IMS) to improve frontline policing.
The Mobile Deployment module uses web service interfaces to enable real-time access to time-critical information on mobile devices, including laptops and smartphones such as the BlackBerry, enabling officers in the field to better capture and utilise intelligence, incident and crime information without the need to return to the station.
Before arriving at the scene of an incident, frontline police officers can connect to key operational systems and databases to review existing crime information and intelligence, both textual and visual.
Once at the scene, new information pertinent to the incident being investigated can be entered directly onto the device, saving further data entry and administration time. Security features such as comprehensive role and access management ensure that information accessed through mobile is carefully controlled.
IMS Mobile Deployment is intuitive and easy-to-use. allowing officers to interrogate back-end systems, input information where appropriate and immediately update systems without the need to return to headquarters.
In addition, data entered or recovered can be re-used without it having to be re-keyed.
Officers can access multiple core operational systems, such as the Police National Computer (PNC), local crime and intelligence databases and the force intranet.
Alastair Luff, managing director of ABM UK, added: “Mobile access to information revolutionises the ability of frontline officers to call up vital information on the fly so that they are better prepared when they arrive at the scene of an incident.
“This new Mobile Deployment module will make a major contribution to helping reduce police bureaucracy, improve service levels and meet operational and financial objectives.
“The challenges of meeting these objectives have pushed mobile data to the top of the agenda. ABM’s Mobile Deployment module is a scalable end-to-end solution that meets stringent operational requirements and provides a seamless data flow between the control room and police out in the community.”
ABM’s Information Management System is an integrated solution covering incident, crime, intelligence and property management, encompassing the collection, collation, management and analysis of information relating to the core operational aspects of policing.
