MPS officer charged with causing death by careless driving

An officer from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a 23-year-old man was hit by a patrol car.

Andrew Brown died after being struck by the marked vehicle on Whitton Road, Hounslow, West London, in November 2019.

Police Constable Daniel Francis, attached to the West Area Command Unit, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on December 7. He remains on restricted duties.

The charges follow an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and a referral to the Crown Prosecution Service. The MPS said misconduct matters will be considered at the conclusion of criminal proceedings.
