Man dies after collision with police car

Derbyshire Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a police vehicle responding to an emergency call.

Derbyshire Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a police vehicle responding to an emergency call. The man was hit in Loundsley Green Road, Chesterfield, at around 8.25am on Monday (September 4). An officer had been responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident. Derbyshire Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). In a statement, the IPCC said: “The IPCC has begun an independent investigation after being notified by Derbyshire Constabulary. “After we were informed about the incident we deployed investigators to the scene and the police post incident procedures.” The pedestrian, described by the force as an “elderly gentleman”, was pronounced dead at the scene.
