An inquiry has begun after a police pursuit of a man reported missing from home ended in a fatal collision. South Wales Police officers were following a red car driven by Andrew Gwynne after he was reported missing on Saturday (August 5). Attempts were made to stop Mr Gwynne – including deploying a stinger – but he collided with a stationary Land Rover on the M4 near Cardiff. The Land Rover driver was not seriously injured but Mr Gwynne died at the scene. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has attended the scene had taken initial accounts from the officers involved. IPCC Operations Manager Mel Palmer said: “This was a tragic event and my thoughts are with Mr Gwynne’s family and friends and all those affected. “We have now met with his family to explain our role and will continue to keep them updated as our investigation progresses.”
