An ICO spokesperson said: “Like many others, the law enforcement sector faces challenges when it comes to data protection, including cyber security, dealing with Freedom of Information (FoI) requests and the impact of inappropriate disclosures.

“The free, digital Data Protection Practitioners’ Conference addresses these issues and offers practical advice straight from the regulator’s mouth.”

Tuesday’s conference (October 3) will include keynote speakers, informative panel sessions and practical workshops.

The workshops, led by ICO experts, will cover everything from good FoI practice to balancing transparency and empathy when handling complaints.

There will also be an expert panel and workshops dedicated to cyber security.

A panel discussion on good FoI practice will look at areas such as organisational culture and request-handling. It will also refer to some of the work the ICO’s ‘upstream team’ is doing to provide tools and assistance.

Another session will highlight the ICO’s data sharing resources, including the data sharing code of practice. It will also go through data sharing case studies that demonstrate how personal information can be shared confidently and proportionately.
