Home Office appoints new Second Permanent Secretary
The Director General for public safety at the Home Office who played a “vital” role working with the police on enforcement measures during lockdown has been named as the new Second Permanent Secretary.
Patricia Hayes will oversee the transformation of the Home Office’s capabilities, with a core focus on instilling operational delivery excellence.
Home Secretary Priti Patel said: “Tricia has already made an incredible impact since joining the Home Office in 2020, leading hugely important work to keep the public safe, including vital work with the police on enforcement measures during lockdown.
“I look forward to her taking up her new role and using her wealth of experience to transform operational delivery across the whole department.”
Home Office Permanent Secretary Matthew Rycroft added that Ms Hayes’ hard work leading the Public Safety Group “made such a difference during a challenging time for policing during the Covid-19 pandemic”.
He said “everyone will be delighted by the news” of her appointment.
Ms Hayes said she was “honoured” to be appointed to the role, adding: “Since I joined the Home Office last year I’ve been inspired every day by the people who work here. I’m really looking forward to working across our huge agenda to make sure we are delivering our absolute best for the public we serve.”
