A new product called GeoVision is being marketed to the UK police service by US company Sayres and Associates. It has the potential to change the way policing operations are carried out and co-ordinated. Hidden Technology Systems International has secured distribution rights here in the UK.

GeoView is a lightweight device that fits onto a camera to allow GPS data to be embedded onto digital photographs to geo-reference the actual location and time/date an event took place. The device is battery operated and can be plugged into existing cameras already fitted to vehicles. It records latitude, longitude, heading, speed, date and time data – information that uses Bluetooth technology to enable it to be downloaded to a laptop and used as permanent evidence or sent anywhere in the world within seconds.

Kevin Cresswell, Vice President, International Operations and Security of Sayres and Associates said: “As a former Cheshire police officer myself, I am only too well aware of the demands placed on police officers to convey information about an operation back to the control room as quickly and accurately as possible. GeoVision will have a huge impact on their ability to do this. The provision of mapping as well as images will also enhance the quality of firearms and surveillance team briefings and will allow uniformed officers to concentrate on the real job of fighting crime and making our communities safer.”
