Four people including a baby die in collision

Three men have been arrested after being involved in a police pursuit that resulted in a fatal collision in Sheffield on Friday.(November 9).

Two men aged 35 and 50, a 41-year-old woman and a one-year-old baby were killed when a Volkswagen Golf collided with a Volkswagen Touran people carrier.  

The three men in the Golf (aged 23, 18 and 17) suffered minor injuries.  

Three other passengers in the Volkswagen Touran were also injured – a three-year-old girl who was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries; a 22-year-old woman who remains in hospital in a critical condition; and a second woman who is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.   

South Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.  

T/Detective Chief Inspector Jude Ashmore said a high number of resources were deployed to the scene with “officers from all of the emergency services working through the night and into the morning to assist”. 

“Our priority now is to support the victims’ families and those affected, and work hard to determine the exact circumstances around what happened,” she added. 

“I know the local community will be shocked and saddened to hear what happened last night and we will have officers in the area today to speak to residents, should they have any questions or concerns. I’d like to thank those who helped immediately after the collision and for their support and patience during the evening.”
