A “gentle giant” of an officer has passed away after falling ill off-duty. Police Constable Martin Jacobs, of Hampshire Constabulary, died at home on Wednesday (August 2). PC Jacobs served within Hampshire Police Federation (HPF) as its Misconduct Lead. He first joined Hampshire Constabulary in 1995, where he worked as an advanced driver. HPF said it is providing support to his fiancée Amber. Chairman John Apter said: “Martin was well known to many officers and his compassion and desire to help people was his strength. “He was an invaluable part of our team and he will be missed terribly. Policing is a family, when we lose one of our own the impact is felt far and wide. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Amber and Martin’s family at this difficult time.” Colleagues paid tribute to the “true gentleman” on social media. Jo Attwater Ventham said: “Such awful sad news, the loss of a lovely gentle giant of a man. RIP Marin, thoughts are with Amber and all your family.” Joanne Moyce said: “Your humour and passion to fight for what is morally right will stay with me forever.”
