Multiple warnings were issued last month over a reported fake force vehicle using blue lights and a siren to pull over drivers in Stoke-on-Trent.

Sightings were reported on the A50, the Anchor Road in Longton, Victoria Road in Fenton, and Victoria Street in Hartshill.

However, it has now emerged the incidents involved genuine unmarked police cars and off-duty officers.

Sergeant Laura Morrey said: “Following a number of reports regarding a suspicious car using blue lights, Staffordshire Police can now confirm that these sightings are of genuine unmarked police vehicles.

“I would like to thank everyone that has called in response to our appeal for information, but I can assure people we are now confident that there is not someone in a rogue vehicle stopping other drivers by pretending to be a police officer.”
