On May 30, 2012, STL Technologies held a regional workshop at the Belfry in Sutton Coldfield to preview its new police suite – PoliceWorks® – which is a software platform for the criminal justice sector based on a Records Management architecture.

Using Microsoft Dynamics CRM (customer relationship management) with Silverlight, PoliceWorks allows UK forces to leverage the key benefits of CRM while providing the rich user experience expected from a truly modern application.

PoliceWorks is a next generation policing platform, modular in design, totally new and built on a common integrated data model. It builds on STL Technologies’ wealth of police IT experience to deliver a system that is efficient, affordable and meets the needs of today’s operational officers.

Microsoft SharePoint also forms an integral part of PoliceWorks, providing both document storage and enterprise wide search and reporting facilities. This solution is all underpinned by Microsoft BizTalk (enterprise service bus) for integration with external systems such as Libra, Compass and PNC.

Michael Barber, CIO, STL Technologies, said: “Our workshop was attended by officers from West Midlands Police and Staffordshire Police, as well as by representatives from both the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Microsoft. The participation by all invited guests and the feedback on the new product suite was excellent. STL Technologies’ PoliceWorks is the next generation of policing system. Built on the latest generation of software it enables UK forces to attain new levels of joined-up policing.”

Key features of PoliceWorks include:

Objectives

PoliceWorks is built around unique People, Objects, Locations and Events (POLE), ensuring that all related information is accessible in one place. This removes both duplication and the inability to readily retrieve consistent data. By breaking down the barriers between applications, the entire PoliceWorks suite is able to cross-reference information across policing disciplines, providing real ‘value added’ information throughout the policing environment.

Integrated digital working

STL Technologies’ expertise in creating multiple, successful interfaces includes the first two-way interface established between the police and the CPS, enabling the CPS to automatically update case files removing the need for repetitive manual data entry by case officers.

Customisable business processes

Using customisable business rules, PoliceWorks offers the benefits of a standard package application with the flexibility of a bespoke development. The solution can be tailored to any force’s particular requirements. Business process and legislative changes can often be made without time consuming and costly development, reducing the cost of ownership and providing a best-fit solution.

Regional view

To help support regional collaboration, forces using PoliceWorks can access a common platform, sharing not only infrastructure and data, but also staff and facilities.
