Improve the capability and capacity of the St. Helena Police Service by developing the skills and abilities of police officers and staff.

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The St Helena Police Service comprises of a Chief of Police, a Detective Chief Inspector, two Inspectors, five Sergeants and 19 Constables, four of whom are Detective Constables

You will provide operational training and support to students and experienced officers. You must establish a trust-based relationship with them to identify individual needs and develop mutually agreed expectations, tutoring them through specific and risk managed work-based scenarios. Maintaining professional knowledge of relevant curricula and criteria you will plan, prepare and facilitate learning opportunities and provide review sessions. Maintaining full records, you must support learners to build evidence of progress and competence, and develop action plans for their professional development. Alongside one of the three operational uniform policing teams you will work for an average of 40 hours/week on 8-11 hour shifts; 14 working days followed by 7 rest days.

Competent within the Police Sector Standard for the Training of Assessors and Tutors, you are a PC with broad policing experience. Having worked in partnership with external stakeholders you have practical knowledge and understanding of current policing challenges, efficiency and diversity issues. Experienced at coaching, mentoring and tutoring, you are skilled in developing rapport, trust and credibility, in using questioning, listening and non-verbal communication techniques, in giving, eliciting and receiving feedback and in overcoming communication barriers. Able to apply a structured approach to the tutoring process you can apply an understanding of human behaviour to the identification of barriers to performance and learning, and to identifying appropriate development actions.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded by the UK Government through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £37k pa, depending on experience and qualifications
