The Chief Constable is seeking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced senior police officers who have the passion to serve the diverse communities of Greater Manchester and who have the drive and enthusiasm to deliver efficient, high levels of performance. Applications are welcome from Inspectors looking to transfer on promotion, or those already at Chief Inspector rank looking for a greater challenge.
At a time of unprecedented change for policing, this is an exciting time to be working for Greater Manchester Police (GMP). GMP is the fourth largest police force in the UK covering 500 square miles of predominantly urban conurbation with some rural and remote areas. It is home to approximately 2.8 million people. One of the hallmarks of Greater Manchester is its variety of diverse cultures. Manchester was the UK’s third most popular city for international visitors in 2016, with 1.2 million visits. Manchester Airport, the North’s Global Gateway handles over 22 million passengers a year. In this diverse, vibrant environment it is not surprising that GMP deals with more priority incidents relative to population than any other force.
Greater Manchester is home to theatres, music venues and cultural festivities as well as two top Premier League football teams, a top division cricket team, a rugby union Premiership team and two rugby Super League teams. There are more than 1,250 demonstrations, public events and conferences a year. Greater Manchester has a comprehensive transport system that includes the Metrolink tram system, rail, and bus and cycle lanes.
GMP is currently undergoing the largest IT transformation project the force has ever seen to create a truly integrated system that will place GMP at the forefront of technology within the UK policing sector, enabling the force to provide the best possible services to the communities of Greater Manchester.
Now, more than ever, GMP needs Chief Inspectors who can instil trust and confidence in officers, teams, partners and the wider community. As a Chief Inspector you will need to contribute to the development of culture, climate and working processes in your area to ensure adherence to standards, and the promotion of accountability and continuous improvement. You will be able to lead in a complex and challenging environment.
The successful applicants will work alongside the senior leadership team to make GMP a better organisation, both in the way we treat each other and in the service we deliver to the public based on the 5 principles of the force’s Target Operating Model (TOM).
You will be a motivated senior officer who is resilient, able to deal with complex and often competing demands. You will have a proven track record of driving significant change at a strategic level. You will have a strong commitment with the highest respect for diversity amongst your colleagues and the communities you will serve. You will be a strong and supportive leader and have the ability to motivate and inspire others.
