Local Policing Interim Vacancy/Secondment Opportunity
Salary in line with the national ACC salary scale
The Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police is seeking to appoint an experienced serving or recently retired Chief Officer, to join the Force Chief Officer Group (COG) for a period of up to 12 months, commencing as soon as possible.
Wiltshire is currently in ‘Engage’ status further to assessment by the HMICFRS in 2022. The role holder will have a unique opportunity to be part of the COG who will lead the improvement journey. Accordingly, this tailored vacancy seeks to attract current serving Chief Officers (ACC/Commander or above) or recently retired Chief Officers.
The successful candidate will lead the Local Policing and Specialist Operations portfolio within the COG.
For current serving Chief Officers, this is a unique secondment opportunity to help Wiltshire Police make real progress on its improvement journey and would provide the role holder with an invaluable development opportunity. The Chief Constable would seek to match the existing benefits package of the successful candidate.
For a recently retired Chief Officer, once again this is a unique opportunity to use your valuable experience as a successful ACC/Commander to improve policing within the county of Wiltshire. The successful candidate would re-join on the 30 plus scheme, using the route where there would be no source detriment to their existing pension entitlement.
In addition, the successful candidate will also be offered the opportunity of accommodation within the county for the duration of the secondment/interim appointment, plus reasonable travelling expenses.
The salary is in line with the national ACC salary scale. However, for current serving Chief Officers interested in this role as a secondment, the Chief Constable would seek to match the benefits package of the successful candidate.
There will be an expectation to be visible in the Force for a minimum of four days a week, plus a requirement to be on call (within an hour of the county border) one week in four.
All applicants must have successfully completed the former Senior Police National Assessment Centre (SPNAC) and Senior Command Course (SCC). In addition, they must be serving or have served as a Chief Officer in England and Wales in the last three years. For serving candidates they must be supported by their current Chief Constable to undertake a secondment of up to a year.
Interested candidates, are asked to submit a two-page CV, setting out their policing experience alongside a two-page covering letter detailing what they believe they would bring to the role.
