Accounting for Performance
Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st September 2010
Following the government’s announcement that Policing and Crime Commissioners will drive performance according to local priorities, you can explore how these developments are being translated into legislation and policy.
The ninth annual Excellence In Policing conference will feature senior police officers, practitioners, politicians and civil servants with key responsibilities for performance issues.
The conference will allow you to gain first hand information about the implications of deep public spending cuts for the police service and how to address the government’s challenge to offset dramatic budget cuts through reduced bureaucracy.
As the so called ‘targets in disguise’ are to be stripped out in favour of greater local accountability, the police service can expect many things that it has grown accustomed to, and perhaps become comfortable with, to be discontinued, but what will replace them?
By Autumn, we will have much greater insight into the Police Reform and Social Responsibilities Bill, which is likely to make major changes to the organisation and accountability of policing in the England and Wales.
Key themes to be explored include: * Value and quality: being citizen-focused * Achieveing more with less * Accountability & performance management * Transitional change * Identifying and realising savings
Also featuring ACPO Excellence in Policing Awards 2010
